Your Questions Answered
How will this allow me to still keep paper records?
It’s great to have electronic records but as beekeepers we still prefer paper records to compare inspections and to spot any trends. So we designed Apiary Insights with all the advantages of digitising the process but ensuring it’s easy to print inspection reports in a clean, well thought out layout. Best of both worlds!
How much does it cost?
As we are in the final testing process, it’s free. All we ask is that you report any bugs to us in return. Those that join now will have free use of the app for it’s lifetime. In future we will be applying a fee as designing and running the app does cost money.
Can I add more than one user?
Yes, many beekeepers share the hive inspections and apiary management with a partner, friend or colleague. You can have multiple users sharing the same app. Simply invite them from within the app and they can start to help you.
Why is it web based?
For now the app is web based and can be used on any device, phone, tablet and computer. We know that not everywhere has a good signal and we will look to create an offline app in time. Fortunately most places to do have good signal so it’s perfect for those locations.
Can I change drop down fields?
We know that many beekeepers have their own ways of completing their hive inspections. So we have enabled a customised field option where you can add your own choices to the drop down options. You have the control over how you complete the forms
What about winter checks?
In summer most beekeepers perform weekly inspections to check for swarm issues and health of the colony. In winter we carry out periodic visual checks, feed monitoring and apiary tasks. When doing winter checks, just choose that option for an inspection and you have a much smaller form to complete with everything from visual condition, feed and pest management. There is also a Task List where you can remind yourself of what needs doing next time you visit and what to take!
